I got up about an hour prior to sunrise at 4 am in order to make it to this location not to get any sunrise photos but to make it there before the harsh light from the sun created reflections on the water. These falls weren’t very tall but the amount of ledges made them very interesting. So far I think I have enjoyed shooting these falls the most, although I haven’t shot that many yet. There were a lot of other interesting things around this area that I wanted to photograph but didn’t have much time to work with so I’ll be looking forward to another trip out here to get those shots when I can find the time.
This is also my submission for the monochrome madness challenge on Leanne Cole’s site. You can view this along with many other submissions by visiting her site on Wednesday after she posts them. Always a lot of great photos.
Stunning!!! This is just beautiful. And you had to rub it in that you got up early eh? π

Thanks Laura! Just stating a fact. π Always got to think about the lighting to get the shot you want! My next trip might not involve me needing to get up so early because the other areas I want to photograph are shaded. π

Fantastic shot Justin! 4am? That’s some serious dedication. If I’m up that early, it’s because of my kids. Anyway, really like the detail in this shot, and the aspect ratio you selected.

Thanks Shane! I guess you could call me a border line hobby extremist in that I’ll do almost anything to get a shot that I want. It also comes down to that the best time to get the shot is also the best time to just enjoy the scenery so it’s worth it in the end.

Thank Carrie! Sometimes there’s a lot of planning that goes into what I’m doing. Since I had visited this place a few weeks prior, I already had ideas of what I wanted to do. I brought my wide angle and macro lens with me and ended up using both of them.
