Decided for a change of pace today and break away from the B&W/monochrome photos to have something a little more colorful. My wife had gotten a bouquet of multi-color flowers and I decided that I needed to get at least one good shot of them before they wilted away. I kept putting it off day after day until one day I decided to force myself to get a few shots and I’m happy I did because 2 days after this shot they were gone.
I’ve also made a decision due to the backlog of photos I want to post that I am going to start posting more of my photos I have been working on throughout the summer. I’ll start my winter photos up again once winter gets here. I think I may start to group some of my photos together or I’ll never be able to get through all of them. Or I’ll possibly start making more than one post per day.

Thanks Amy! The hard part was trying to decide which flower to shoot as the dominate because there were so many colors with these. I decided that since the yellow one was the brightest and it caught my attention the most that it should be the dominate one in the photo with the darker colors complimenting in the background.

I usually let my “eye” decide. I try NOT to think outside of what settings to set my camera to and then STOP all thinking. SMILE! Try it, you just might like it. LOL (((HUGS))) Amy

I did find that on my last trip on this last Saturday that I am getting much better at knowing what settings I want the aperture at in order to get the look I’m going for. It does help quite a bit with shortening the time it takes to get set up and get the shot. I also ended up taking all my photos on a tripod. Sometimes I also just lift the camera to my eye to view the scene and don’t even bother with turning the camera on unless I think I can make something with that scene. Sometimes I see something through the lens that I don’t with my eyes just because we can’t mimic different depths of field with our eyes.

I’m thinking if I can find the time to just post a couple a day until I get down to a few. I’m just worried that if I can’t make it out to shoot at some point I might run out of photos to post if I start posting too many too fast. What’s a photography blog without photos? lol

Justin, I shot like a madwoman this past spring and summer just to have enough (hopefully) to show over the cold months. IF I run out …. no not going there. I still have fall to photograph and I do plan on getting to Niagara Falls. Now the later depends on hubs for two reasons …. I don’t want anyone stealing my equipment while I am involved in the shooting process (I tend to loose this world as I gaze into my view finder) and my equipment is so heavy I need a MAN to help me. Yes, I can do it alone, but trekking a long ways, no. So there you have it. I’m waiting on a man. sigh LOL Love, Amy

I’m sure I’ll get even more photos piled up this next winter than I have taken over the summer months so far as I enjoy getting out more during the winter than the summer. I can’t wait to try and take some more of what I’ve learned to photograph more snow and ice.

Oh wow! You are just the opposite of me. Someone is going to have to drag me out in the cold … and that someone will have to be me. I’ve got the clothes …. but I have to get very warm gloves that fit my fingers in a way so they are mobile. Mittens over those when I am not using my hands. Yep, I’ve got some ideas already on where to go. One is ski country. (smile) Another is Lake Erie. Another …. well, you will just have to wait and see. GRIN! xx Amy

Amy, you don’t need a man. I went to Niagara Falls two years ago and off-season you can park pretty close and carry your equipment. Unfortunately, I don’t think I will be posting any of those shots as I was a novice at that point and had no idea what I was doing!

Emilio, my concern is my equipment that will be on the ground with my expensive lenses in my backpack. I get so involved in my photography I wouldn’t even know if someone takes the backpack. Let me think this out. If I set up my tripod with my camera on it, I could have one of the straps of my backpack around one of my legs. That might be pretty awkward but I think doable. I will try this out at Goat Island and the American Falls and see how I do. I wait for the perfect cloudy day and go. Thank you, Emilio, for helping me think things through. I have yet to own a ND filter, so I use just my polarized one, and with that, yes I do need cloud cover. Now I plan! (((HUGS))) Amy

Thanks Sarah! I didn’t even realize I was doing it at the time I was shooting but it sort of felt like it was the best composition as I was looking at it. I went for some other shots but nothing I set up looked as nice as this one did. I guess as I take more photos I’m getting better at seeing the better compositions before I click the shutter button.

Your artistic eye is taking over 🙂 Lots of things will just become instinctual to you. I sometimes don’t notice what I’ve done until I review my images and suddenly see something that was done completely subconsciously but is very me!

I like posting only one photo at time. I feel as if the viewer will maybe pay closer attention and not get distracted. Don’t know if that’s true or not for everyone but it’s true for me! The colors in this shot are just so more vibrant in your high Res version. Is there no way to force people to click? 😉

Thanks Emilio! Maybe I should just provide a link without an image? lol. Not sure if other’s would like that though. But at least I provide the option and always have the instructions if they choose to. I like that WP allows you to set a link on the photo.
I think I’ve decided to possibly do multiple posts per day. Probably one in the morning and one in the afternoon. That might work out better.

Thanks Ben! One thing that I was also aiming for, and it really shows, is that you can’t tell how many flowers there were. There wasn’t that many but the photo looks as though it could be endless.
