Last week I was a bit late in getting my photo to Leanne for the Monochrome Madness challenge so instead she is posting that photo this week so this is my unofficial Monochrome Madness photo for this week. I’ll have to remember to send that to her over the weekend instead of waiting until the last minute.
On other news, for those of you who care, the baby has decided to finally turn so he is now head down so my wife doesn’t need to have a c-section anymore. This is good news for both of us as she didn’t want to have a c-section partly due to the longer recovery time and I can have more time to practice my portrait photography before he comes. I will be working part time from home when he comes for a few weeks so during the last week or two I will most likely have some time to get out and take some photos of the ice. I’ve missed being able to do that this winter and from some other local photographers I see that I am missing some great opportunities. And I’m sure you all would love to see more of my ice photos as well. But for now I’ll be working on how to use my new flash better for both portraits and landscape. Tomorrow I’ll be posting my first practice shot for preparing for landscape photography with a flash.
Spoken like a true photographer. Your wife is having a baby and you can’t wait to have more time to practice your portrait photography before he comes! Isn’t it nice that we have wives who understand us so completely? Also, I know that practice will come in handy for taking all those new-born shots you’ll be boring us with in a short time. π My best to you and your wife and the new baby! Can’t wait to see those photos. Really!

Thanks Emilio! I wasn’t actually planning on posting any photos of my baby but perhaps if I can get some good shots I’ll post a few. I do take quite a few photos of my kids but just don’t post them unless they have more of an artistic look or I’m putting together a learning post and using the photos to point something out. The reason for this is because I generally don’t care about looking at other’s photos of their kids because I don’t know their kids so they mean nothing to me. It’s not out of disrespect but more out of me not being interested in those photos. So I feel that others come to my blog to not find photos of my family but to view photographic art. But I also see my kids every day so a photo of them isn’t going to look as interesting as a photo of a place I visited a couple times for instance. At least until I get the art of newborn photography down. I’ve got a couple of months after he pops out to master it until he’s too big for good newborn photos. I guess we’ll see how well I do.

I agree with you that I have no interest in seeing photos of someone’s kids. But I never thought your photos would be mere snapshots and that’s why I would love to see what you did with some newborn shots. Of course, if you’d rather post portrait shots of an attractive young female model, I wouldn’t mind, either.

Congrats on the baby (and more prep time)!

Thanks Michelle! I was able to make it to an off camera flash workshop where they taught how to use your external flash as a studio strobe light with an umbrella or soft-box. This weekend I’ll be putting that knowledge to practice with my other two kids so that hopefully I’ll be able to get at least some decent photos of my newborn once he’s here.

Thanks Tina! It’ll be nice to know a bit about portrait photography for one of my newborns! I’ve tried with the past two but nothing turned out anything like I was hoping. Now I have a bit more of a chance.

Thanks Sarah! He’s still head down and we are looking at scheduling an induction for next Friday. That would put my wife at about 39 1/2 weeks. Unless he decides to come out on his own before then. π

Not yet. My wife has an appointment this afternoon which is when we will get the induction scheduled. We are hoping they have an opening this Friday but my wife is ready for him to come out now. I have been practicing with my flash though so once he gets out I’m hoping that I’m not too tired to take some photos. If I get some good ones then I’ll post them.

Looks like Friday and Saturday are booked so the soonest they could schedule us in is next Tuesday which is actually 1 day before the due date. So unless he comes early then we are looking at next week. Kind of messes up other plans but nothing we can’t handle.

Having a new baby = be flexible π
I have to say, many of my friends who are mums all went between 10 days and two weeks over! At least he turned for you π Now, what are the old tales, oh yes; long walks and extremely hot curries to speed thing up π

Thanks Elen! I’ve got some ideas for some high key and low key photos with the new born but it’s just trying to figure out how to get the lighting correct in order to make them happen that’s going to be the tricky part.
